This year has been a rough one, everyone knows it and I won’t enumerate all the crappy details. But I decided to try to bid adieu to 2020 with a challenge to myself — knock out 50 miles this month, the month I turn 50.
It started great, I felt strong the first two days out on the roads this December, but then I got sick and so did the rest of my house. We’re all doing OK, but it’s been serious enough that running is out of the question as is going anywhere but to a doctor’s office.
If I’m honest, I’m thankful we really haven’t had to give up very much this year despite it all. So I can say I don’t mind that it’s going to be a challenge to hit my miles for this month. I figure every mile I can do will be a gift after the scare we’ve had and if I have to get my 50 in January or even February or even later, that’ll be just fine.
You see, it’s ok to take your time getting to your goals during the challenges we’re all facing. Delays suck, but if we can all just try to do the right thing, wear our masks, stay home when we’re sick, then I think many more of us will get a chance to get what we want later. We got to be in this together if we ever hope to really move forward down the road.
