Well, I was hoping that by this time we’d be able to run together in the Leprechaun Race 2021. The 2020 version was one of the first races to fall due to the pandemic and though I ran it on my own so I could earn my shirt, I was looking forward to trying to beat that Leprechaun.
For those that don’t know, Reno’s Leprechaun Race, managed by Race 178, benefits The Children’s Discovery Museum downtown and features a little twist on the traditional Leprechaun legend.
While most legends and stories, like one of my favorites “Jaimie O’Rourke and the Giant Potato” a person goes out and catches a Leprechaun to get a wish or pot of gold.
But the Reno Race turns the tables and releases a speedy Leprechaun during the race who catches runners. The Leprechaun starts the race after everyone else for each person the Leprechaun passes, a little more money s thrown into the pot for The Discovery.
Despite being a virtual race, they’re keeping the Leprechaun element and when you pick up your packet of swag, you can even get a socially distanced photo with the Fast Fairy Tale Talent.
Anyway, you can sign up on Race 178. I already did. Hope you can find a place to race the Leprechaun this year and next year, we’ll definitely be out there. You can run it and post your results between March 12 and March 14.
Keep on Running. Keep on writing.
