I’m 50 now and I get aches and pains that sometimes don’t seem to go away, but at long last, heading into this week I felt fantastic. So Tuesday, I got up, did my stretching and then hit the road. Didn’t go particularly fast or hard, but I felt strong throughout the run and when I got back, I did some stretching and then, I decided, you know, I really do need to work on my core. So I did this workout routine on Nike Training Club for about 20 plus minutes.
Now here’s probably where I went wrong. After the workout took the shower and then sat down to do some writing and research. About an hour or two later, I got up to get some water or coffee — okay, it was coffee– and I was surprised that I could barely stand upright. Whoops!
Anyway, I grunted and groaned throughout the day and even into the night. But in the morning, I did something that actually worked for me. I got up and I pulled out my foam roller and rolled out some muscles in my back and sides and hip and glutes. Then I turned to my Nike Training Club app and pulled up Alex Silva-Fagan’s Low Back Relief workout.
It did wonders. I’ve tried out a lot of the workouts on NTC and I like a lot of the trainers, but Silver-Fagan is one of my favorites because every time I’ve used one of her workouts, I come away feeling better.
Besides finding her low back workout, I also did something smart. I didn’t run on Wednesday. And this morning, Thursday, I woke up and felt great. So I did my stretches, threw in a few of Silver-Fagan’s exercises into the routine and hit the road. Was only going to go for about 10 to 15 minutes, but I stayed out for 19 and I can report I still feel loose and good.
Anyway, so thanks NTC.
Hope you all are getting some good miles in.
Keep running, keep writing.
