Well the Leprechaun ran the race this morning and as expected she beat me and a lot of folks running the annual Leprechaun Race for the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum.
Each year, this race managed by Race 178, features a leprechaun who starts after all the other runners and walkers have left the starting line and picks up money for her pot of gold by passing people. This year’s version, because it was virtual, they gave the Leprechaun a time penalty. She still crushed it this year, running a 25:07 placing her in 51st. That’s with a four minute penalty.
She caught 232 of us this year and, if she hadn’t had the penalty, she would have actually finished tied for 12th overall. Speedy, indeed. Even with the time penalty, our Leprechaun beat me by almost 12 minutes. For those that don’t follow running, that’s almost like a full race ahead of me. The runner with the fastest time this year was by D. Henriques who finished in 15:45. The second fastest, by A. Henriques, was 19:15.
For those interested, a full list is available on the Race 178 website and there’s some fun video and photos on the facebook page.
I finished in 161st place, myself.
It was an enjoyable event and I look forward to running later this year in an actual race.
I gotta say Race 178 found a way to make this virtual event fun and thank you to all the sponsors for hanging in there for this. It’s a nice way for the community to come together after more than a year of the difficulties we’ve all seen.
If you get a chance, visit some of those sponsors from the Race 178 page.
Keep running, keep writing.
