Regulars to Chalk Creek know that I’ve started a run to Patriot’s Day. I’m rebranding it because although I figure we should all celebrate the Boston Marathon, associating my attempt to get in 26.2 miles by Patriot’s Day with the Boston Marathon might be frowned upon by the B.A.A. Anyway, so this came about because I generally like watching the Boston, New York and London marathons when I can. I did one year get over to Central Park with my wife and some friends to watch the winners come in for the NYC.
For those that don’t know, Boston is run on Patriot’s Day, which is similar to our very awesome and cool holiday, Nevada Day, except for some reason they celebrate like clam chowder and traffic circles, oh and running 26.2 miles.
Anyway, Covid derailed the annual running of Boston last year, but the B.A.A., wisely decided to schedule the marathon for October of this year. The BAA is offering some pretty cool virtual races leading up to Patriot’s Day and there’s some nice swag with it. Check it out.
I might sign up for one of these as part of my run, but I tend to go my own way here on the Creek. So I decided to run the requisite distance for the marathon over the course of a few weeks and I’ve got good news. I’m just 15.3 miles away from the finish and I’ve improved my pace by nearly 20 seconds. If I keep it up, I might actually break 5 hours of running overall!

As part of my run, I’ll give whoever finishes with the quickest time over the course of April a choice of a signed copy of either The Last Disruptor, a science fiction novel that makes a great gift for advanced middle school readers and their adults, or Potential: A Novel, the story of a three men trying to figure out who they are after a thwarted mugging in Reno. Potential is an adult contemporary title.
You either have to send me a message or post your time in the comments on this post or another post update on my run to Patriot’s Day.
Keep running, keep writing.
