I’ve thought about doing this for some time, but I’m going to go ahead with it this week and give a video reading. It’s a bit daunting, because I have to decide what passages to read and so I’ve been researching how to select those to keep people entertained.
So far, the advice that has made the most sense and seems relevant has come from Writer’s Digest. Try to find something with action and dialogue. It’s good to read something humorous, but don’t mislead the audience. So I’m reading passages form The Last Disruptor and it’s both a funny book for kids and has its serious moments that will pull a tear out of you from time to time, especially us older folk.
So I will be practicing reading that over the next few days and working on it. I’ll also be writing out a brief script with introductory remarks and transitions. When I was a reporter, our newspaper tried to get us to shoot videos as reporters and we all learned rather quickly to write little scripts before recording anything and practicing it.
I will be taking questions written in the comments this time around and submitted before the event kicks off on Thursday April 15 at noon. As I get better at this, I will work on using the available technology to do these things live. For now, I’m just so new to it, I want to make sure I get it right and practice with it.
So I’m playing around with the passages and reading up on what to choose and watching some vids.
