We are nearing release of R.D. Varnon’s latest Chalk Creek Project Dragons of Orion. R.D., or Ardy, as we fondly call him here on the Creek, tells us the title may change before release, but it is going forward and with a projected release date for November.
The story takes place on a world where islands send champions and their mythical creatures to compete every 20 years for the sovereignty of their archipelago. Tom Brace, of Dragon Island, is from a family that boasts several champions in his line, but he himself seems a disaster. Still, the 13-year-old boy is smart and kind and manages to get into the contest where he is paired with the strangest dragon to ever rear its heads on the island. After the other dragons are poisoned, Tom and his dragon Four will have to carry the hopes of his people into the first round of the competition against Unicorn Island as this series takes flight. Oh, and watch out for the mysterious and dangerous merchant.
The book is suitable for all ages, middle school and up. If you’d like to get a sneak peak of some early chapters, head over to Robert Varnon — R.D. Varnon to check them out.
As we said, this is the first book in a series and Ardy over there is working hard on the follow up and we’ve seen a few of the pages. It promises to be great adventure!
Other books and shorts are in the planning stages for the coming months and years and we hope to keep you entertained along the way.
Maybe not as extreme as this…but we hope you will give us your hands, you know to hold the books.

Keep reading, keep running.
Can’t wait to see the new book. Loved the preview chapters,
