Welcome to Chalk Creek Writing Outfit, the marketing and publishing site for the art and writing of Rob Varnon. Rob writes under two names, Robert Varnon for adult, general, literary fiction and R.D. Varnon for science fiction and fantasy.

Our Story

Chalk Creek was originally started as a fun alternate site to RobertVarnon.com. It provided an outlet for other types of writing and included for a time, posts about Rob’s love of running.

Today, this site is here to provide you access to Rob’s works and news on his art and writing.

For those of you just finding us, Rob Varnon took a unique journey becoming an artist and author.

Rob is a former journalist, who spent years covering a variety of beats, including town politics, economics, labor, defense and financial industries, utility regulation, transportation and a lot of stuff in between. But he tried out a lot of other careers and jobs before that and since. He’s been a waiter, a cook, a baker, a concrete and construction laborer. He’s served process for a legal messenger company, run parts for a specialty auto-part company. He even spent several years as a tech for the TV ratings.

His most important role in life is as a husband, father, son, brother and friend. He also has a lovable goofball of a dog.

When you ask him why this is at all important to know about him, he will tell you, “maybe it’s not, but for me, all these experiences, roles, jobs and places have brought me into the lives of a lot of people. And that humanity which I have experienced, I hope to bring into my writing.”
